It looks at the changing needs of the more complex patients and how physiotherapy can effectively and efficiently influence individual patient's and the public's health and wellbeing.

Module aims To continue to build upon the core clinical knowledge and skills introduced in earlier modules, developing comprehensive assessment and treatment options for the more complex patient cases. Complex case may include; those with long term conditions, multiple pathologies or sudden life changing illnesses or injuries, or socially excluded groups etc.

To critically explore the professional duty of care, professional autonomy and judgement in cases where patients with complex needs require deviation from more widely used pathways or processes and to be able to create an individualised pathway for that particular patient needs. To critically evaluate and reflect on potential interventions considering effectiveness and measuring of patient outcomes.

To identify areas where physiotherapy practice can positively influence the promotion of health and the prevention of illness across a variety of settings and circumstances. To create an opportunity for students to experience contemporary physiotherapy practice through two 5-week practice placements.

Identify opportunities for physiotherapy interventions to improve patient and public health and well-being in a variety of settings and circumstances.

Learning and teaching methods This module utilises a variety of teaching and learning methods including lectures, enquiry based learning, tutorials, practical skills development, independent and group learning time. There is an additional 50 hours of physiotherapy skills development time. Lectures will be used to introduce key concepts to students.

These are always interactive and often interspersed with practical skills development and group work time. There is an expectation that students undertake a significant amount of independent learning, especially focused on producing work for small group enquiry based learning activities and assessed tasks.

Placement 3 and 4 are undertaken in this module. These are both assessed at level 6.

Students are expected to undertake a minimum of 35 hours of placement activity per week; each placement is 5 weeks in length. Moodle resources are available throughout the module, these include teaching material, mandatory training courses, online discussion forums, quizzes etc. Journals and e books are available through the university library.

Large and small group tutorials are utilised to facilitate enquiry based learning or journal clubs.
